How to generate MD5 and SHA hashes online
Add your content
Type or paste any text into the editor, or pick a file from your device to hash the raw bytes of that file.
Read the digests
MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 are calculated instantly and listed in one table with their bit length.
Copy what you need
Use the Copy button on any single row, or “Copy all hashes” to grab every digest in one plain-text block.
Verify a download
Compare the hash of your file with the checksum published by the vendor to prove the download is intact and untampered.
Hash & checksum generator — frequently asked questions
MD5 is computed by a compact pure-JavaScript implementation of RFC 1321 that ships inside the tool. The SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 digests come from the browser’s native Web Crypto API (crypto.subtle.digest), which is also what powers certificate and password managers. Nothing is uploaded.
The Web Crypto API is only exposed in secure contexts — pages served over HTTPS or from localhost. If you open this tool over plain HTTP from another device, the browser withholds crypto.subtle. In that case MD5 keeps working and the SHA rows are disabled with an explanation. The site itself is served over HTTPS, so this normally never happens.
No. MD5 is fast and broken against collision attacks, which makes it useless for password storage. This tool exists for file verification, fingerprinting and API checksums — never to hash a password for storage.
This tool hashes the whole file in memory, so it works best for documents and media up to a few hundred megabytes. For very large archives, use a command-line utility such as sha256sum or certutil -hashfile.
Never. The tool only reads the bytes you give it. Files are read through the FileReader API in your browser and are never uploaded, modified or stored.
